GENERAL SERIES INFO:
This DVD contains a series of lessons from a regular guy who is also a guitar teacher with 30 years experience playing, writing and teaching. The goal was to create a series of no-frills instructional videos each of which are the equivalent of many individual private lessons. The emphasis is on easy to follow lessons, light on ego and flashy production techniques but full of instructional value: showing, teaching and explaining rhythm and lead lines to some of the worlds greatest classic rock tunes. This series of DVD's personalizes the process and covers each lesson completely through demonstrations, explanation and close up views of the fingerings. You progress at your own pace - playing easier parts first and picking up more each time you play it!
This DVD series includes lessons that are designed to benefit a wide ranges of ages and abilities. Good basic guitar abilities are a prerequisite of this series and it is gear toward a range within the intermediate category. Early intermediate students can find months of material to work on in each DVD - starting on easier songs and working up to the more difficult. The more experienced players may still find surprises in the easier material or just move more quickly to the more advanced details of the chords, riffs and leads. This series does NOT include any TAB or written material - its designed to teach thru visual and audio instruction and demonstration. By watching and playing along with guitar in hand, the student is also training his ear with the ultimate goal of being able to pick out songs on their own. (The series focus is on the fingering hand, while picking hand shots are included when deemed necessary, most basic strumming and individual note picking is understood at this level.)
NOTES ON REO DVD:
Great guitar progressions, riffs & songs!
This is about average difficulty for classic rock and doesn't have very large lead breaks but the ones there are can be a bit tricky. Its does have songs with very well known guitar-based riffs and progressions that got huge amount of radio airplay. The early stuff like Keep Pushin and Ridin the Storm is very jam-friendly classic rock 'n roll that still shows its connections to the blues-rock family tree. To me, the earlier guitar tones are a bit more vintage overdriven Marshall that progressed into more heavily distorted and sustained tones. Their later stuff like Roll with Changes, Time2Fly, Lovin' You were very radio friendly tunes but still has some interesting multi-chord progressions and hooky guitar melody and lead lines. If you love REO and enjoy learning from this series, then this is a must DVD!
