Thorogood Blues
GENERAL SERIES INFO:
This DVD contains a series of lessons from a regular
guy who is also a guitar teacher
with 30 years experience playing, writing and teaching. The goal was
to create a series of no-frills
instructional videos each of which are the equivalent of many individual private
lessons. The emphasis is on easy to follow lessons, light on ego and
flashy production techniques but full of instructional value: showing, teaching
and explaining rhythm and lead lines to some of
the worlds greatest classic rock tunes. This series of DVD's personalizes the
process and covers each
lesson completely through demonstrations, explanation
and close up views of the fingerings. You progress at your own pace -
playing easier parts first and picking up more each time you play it!
This DVD series includes lessons that are designed to benefit a wide ranges of ages and abilities. Good basic guitar abilities are a prerequisite of this series and it is gear toward a range within the intermediate category. Early intermediate students can find months of material to work on in each DVD - starting on easier songs and working up to the more difficult. The more experienced players may still find surprises in the easier material or just move more quickly to the more advanced details of the chords, riffs and leads. This series does NOT include any TAB or written material - its designed to teach thru visual and audio instruction and demonstration. By watching and playing along with guitar in hand, the student is also training his ear with the ultimate goal of being able to pick out songs on their own. (The series focus is on the fingering hand, while picking hand shots are included when deemed necessary, most basic strumming and individual note picking is understood at this level.)
NOTES ON Thorogood DVD:
Great riffs & songs!
This DVD is really a good intro to standard blues slide, open tunings as well as general blues George Thorogood style. But these are classic rockin Blues songs that can be even be played acoustic players but is very fun electric with a bit of overdrive to dirty things up and add sustain. As in most blues the songs normally have just a few chords but the key is in the tunings, the notes being picked, the right hand rhythm technique as well as the real 'blues feel' that keeps the blues enthusiast playing for hours on end.
Who Do You Love covers Open E tuning and the Bo Diddley Beat as well as standard blues progression and it basic alternate. After tuning back to standard for I Drink Alone and 1 Bourbon/Scotch/Beer for some non-slide based down home blues riffs we go back to slide and alt tunings with Open G with Bad to the Bone. Then we go into Open D tuning on the blues standard with 'The Sky is Cryin' done in true Thorogood manner as a true slide blues primer. So this DVD is especially recommended if you want to get into some electric blues slide and get the low down on Open Tunings for slide, or just love the Blues, Thorogood Style!
